Andre
Luis Shoumatoff: Andre grew up in Westchester County, NY and Keene,
NY. His mother is from Brazil and his father from New York.
For those of you who haven’t has the pleasure of meeting Andre, I can promise
you, you can’t miss his curly black hair and his kind eyes that tower 6
feet 5 inches, well above us all. Andre attended Northfield
Mt. Hermon in Massachusetts followed by the University of Vermont.
While at UVM he started the club lacrosse program and traded his snowboard
in for telemark skis (and he studied Cultural Anthropology). After
graduation Andre drove his restored Diesel Landcrusier with the company
of his two kittens, across the country to chase his love of mountains and
good snow. Andre pours his heart into passion after passion, ranging
from old 4 wheel drive vehicles and politics to bio-diesel and more recently
mountain biking. Andre is known affectionately by his friends in
Park City as “The Governa” since he seems to know nearly everyone in town
and has a connection to everything. Andre has a way of making everyone
in his life feel special and cared for, even if you have just met him,
and he therefore has an ever growing web of friends spanning the country
and beyond (even in Kyrgyzstan). -
Carrie
Carrie
Jennette Thompson: Carrie was born in Palo Alto, California and
moved here to Park City with her folks in about 1982. She was blonde
back then believe it or not and was really cute with big cheeks and a huge
smile. She went to elementary school and middle school here, where
her mom was the computer teacher and this was really embarrassing for her,
and where she was a ski racer on the Park City Ski Team. She then
luckily escaped to Rowland Hall (Rowmark Ski Academy) in Salt Lake City
where she continued to ski and started a long history of becoming good
friends with some of the most amazing people in the world. She was
admitted and decided to attend Middlebury College, the same school where
her mom went back in the 60’s, where she was a “Feb” (a “weird” freshman
entrant in the middle of the year), eventually became a captain of the
swimming team, ended up graduating early, and even got a degree in psychology.
Since college Carrie became an unbelievably cute telemark skier.
When she is not suffering from chronic knee injuries (for example, she
tore her ACL last fall mountain biking), she loves skiing and road bicycling
and as always, our cats, our chimineya, Brown Sugar, and just having a
good time. - Andre
How
We Met: It was the winter of the 2002 Olympics and Carrie was
living in a tiny little apartment that Andre could barely fit in.
We met at the No-Name Saloon on Main Street in Park City, of all places
and Andre’s pickup line was something along the lines of “hey, what’s
your name…” Interestingly enough, we had both spent the same 4 years
in Vermont just 45 minutes from each other, but we had to come all the
way out to Park City to meet in a bar. We proceeded to have a “terrible”
first date followed by a much better second date at the Alta ski resort.
And the rest is history!
The
Rest: We have been living in Park City since 2001. We currently
live in our little condo with our two kittens, Iggy and Roof Tiger, who
don’t really like people (so don’t be offended if they don’t pay attention
to you). Andre works in the lodging industry booking ski vacations.
On the side he does freelance web design projects and rebuilds old vehicles
as a hobby. Carrie has been working at the Oakley School, a therapeutic
college prep boarding school, since 2001 and is currently the Director
of Admissions.
